Will IoT Antennas Interfere With WiFi Signals?

Introduction

1. Frequency Difference Determines Basic Anti-interference Performance

• Common WiFi works at 2.4GHz (2400~2483MHz) and 5GHz (5150~5850MHz).
• Most IoT modules adopt sub-GHz bands including 433MHz, 868MHz, 915MHz, as well as NB-IoT / 4G cellular frequency ranges. These frequencies are fully apart from WiFi, so their antennas produce no natural interference.
• Only Bluetooth/BLE IoT runs on 2.4GHz, sharing the same frequency with 2.4G WiFi, which brings potential interference risks.

2. Two Main Interference Scenarios

1. 2.4GHz co-frequency stacking: BLE IoT antenna and 2.4G WiFi antenna placed too closely (less than 2–3cm) will lead to electromagnetic coupling, unstable network speed and intermittent signal drop.
2. Messy wiring & unreasonable structure: Power cables and unstandard coaxial lines near antennas bring extra electromagnetic noise and weaken receiving sensitivity.

5GHz WiFi never conflicts with all mainstream IoT antennas in frequency.

3. Practical Installation Guidelines

1. Keep over 3cm gap between 2.4G IoT and 2.4G WiFi external antennas; above 10cm is better.
2. Place 2.4GHz related antennas on opposite sides of equipment.
3. Isolate antenna coaxial cables from power cords to avoid cross winding.
4. For compact integrated equipment, choose high-isolation customized antennas.

1. Sub-GHz, NB-IoT and 4G IoT antennas have zero interference with both 2.4G & 5G WiFi normally.
